Here comes the perfect Advent snack: raw gingerbread balls that taste like gingerbread dough. They're packed with nutrition and high-quality fats that work magic for your hormones and menstrual cycle. And we promise, they really taste like gingerbread dough. Think gingerbread dough stuck in ball shape.
Sugar-free, gluten-free and dairy-free gingerbread balls
The gingerbread balls are boosted with real butter, but you can also use coconut oil to make them completely dairy-free. In the same way, you can exclude oatmeal and use sunflower seeds instead if you want to make them completely gluten-free. The reason we like to use real butter/ghee in several of our baked goods is that it contains cholesterol, which can help the body produce sex hormones that are important for the menstrual cycle. We have also added a teaspoon of maca powder, which is an adaptogen that can help balance hormones. The icing on the cake is that we boosted them with collagen, which has a host of effects for health and hormones. All without sacrificing taste.
Recipe frozen gingerbread balls/gingerbread dough
2 dl almonds/cashews
1 dl oatmeal (alternatively sunflower seeds for gluten-free)
3 teaspoons gingerbread spice
0.25-0.5 tsp salt (took quite a lot)
6-8 fresh pitted dates
1.5 tbsp coconut oil/real butter
Maybe a little water, about 0.5-1 tbsp
Mix the almonds and oatmeal into a flour. Core the dates and mix the rest of the ingredients to a smooth batter. Taste if you want more gingerbread spice/salt. Let stand for a few hours in the freezer before eating them (can be eaten straight away but I love them frozen, the taste and texture are awesome)
